The Courses at Moss Creek
The Devils Elbow North and South
Architects: Tom Fazio and George Fazio
Built: 1975
Moss Creek offers some of the finest golf in all of the Lowcountry, with its two championship courses, Devil’s Elbow South and Devil’s Elbow North. Both courses were Fazio-designed more than 30 years ago, with the intention of making the game challenging for the low handicap golfers, as well as fair and playable to higher handicap players. Each of the two 18-hole courses at Moss Creek offers its own distinct character and challenges. Both courses are quintessential Lowcountry layouts, featuring lush, tree-lined fairways, expansive ponds, meandering waterways, and the signature tidal salt marshes that define the region.
Moss Creek
Devils Elbow North
The Devil’s Elbow North Course offers a slightly more forgiving layout compared to its sister course, but it is no less engaging. The North Course is characterized by its scenic beauty and thoughtful design, which provides a fair challenge to golfers of all abilities. While the North Course is more forgiving than the South, it still requires careful shot selection and execution. The fairways are slightly wider, and the hazards are less intimidating, making it an enjoyable round for higher handicap players. However, the course still offers plenty of challenge for more skilled golfers, with its well-guarded greens and subtle elevation changes.
Signature Hole – Hole 7, Par 4: The 7th hole on the North Course is a standout, featuring a narrow fairway that winds through a corridor of trees and water hazards. The approach shot is to an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker in front and water on the right. The hole demands accuracy off the tee and a well-judged second shot to avoid trouble and set up a birdie opportunity. The view from the tee box, with the fairway framed by majestic pines and a glistening pond, is one of the most memorable on the course.

Moss Creek
Devils Elbow South
The Devil’s Elbow South Course is known for its strategic design and the variety of challenges it presents. It’s a course that rewards accuracy and course management, with numerous doglegs, water hazards, and well-placed bunkers that force players to think carefully about each shot. Throughout the South Course, players will encounter a series of doglegs that require precise tee shots to set up the best angles into the greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including the 4th and 15th, where the fairways narrow and force players to choose between a safe play or a more aggressive approach. The South Course is a test of both skill and strategy, rewarding those who can navigate its challenges with finesse.
Signature Hole – Hole 12, Par 3: The 12th hole on the South Course is one of the most picturesque and challenging par-3s in the region. The hole requires a tee shot over water to a green that is well-protected by bunkers on both sides. The green itself is large, but with subtle undulations that can make putting difficult. The hole’s setting, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lowcountry, adds to its allure, making it a favorite among members.
