The Course

Architect: Tom Fazio
Built: 2019

The recently renovated Sanctuary Golf Club is a stunning par-71 layout spanning 6,673 yards from the back tees.  Nestled on Cat Island, the course is renowned for its captivating blend of natural beauty and strategic challenge, offering golfers a truly exceptional experience.  George W. Cobb’s design shines through in the Sanctuary Golf Club, which features a newly enhanced layout with laser-leveled tee boxes for a more consistent and rewarding play. The course winds gracefully through a landscape dominated by ancient oaks and offers breathtaking views of the Port Royal Sound.  The course meanders through Cat Island’s expansive maritime forest, presenting players with dramatic barrier-island vistas. The course is enveloped in lush, verdant scenery, providing a serene backdrop.  Sanctuary Golf Club features velvet Tifdwarf greens, known for their smooth, consistent putting surfaces.

Signature Holes:

Hole 4: This picturesque par-4 hole challenges golfers with a strategic layout that requires a well-placed tee shot to navigate around the ancient oaks and avoid natural hazards. The approach to the green offers sweeping views of the Port Royal Sound, enhancing the hole’s visual and strategic appeal.

Hole 7: A standout par-3 that demands precision with its elevated green overlooking the sound. The hole’s design requires careful club selection and accurate distance control, as the green is well-guarded by natural features and offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

Hole 15: A classic risk-reward par-5 that offers a chance for a memorable finish. This hole features a sweeping layout with strategic bunkers and a dogleg that challenges golfers to decide between a bold attempt to reach the green in two or a more conservative approach. The finishing shot provides panoramic views of the Port Royal Sound, making it a highlight of the round.

The Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island is more than just a golf course; it’s a scenic retreat that combines historical design, modern enhancements, and breathtaking natural surroundings.
