Cotton Dike, Dataw Island’s first golf course, was designed by Tom Fazio and is set amidst terrain shaped by historic dikes used for cotton fields during the plantation era. The 18 holes require strategic thinking and precision, offering golfers a rewarding experience with diverse challenges. Approximately half of the course borders the marsh and Jenkins Creek, providing a captivating blend of Lowcountry natural beauty and Fazio’s meticulous design. In 2011, the Cotton Dike course underwent a comprehensive renovation, reclaiming its status as one of the Lowcountry’s premier courses.

The Arthur Hills Morgan River Signature Course offers a unique golfing experience characterized by strategic excellence and the Scottish flair that is a hallmark of Arthur Hills’ designs. The course features an aqua-shaping technique that allows aquatic plants to flourish in the ponds, attracting wildlife to the course. The Community

Dataw Island residents, affectionately known as Datawites, form a vibrant and altruistic community.
Acts of charity abound, with member-based non-profit organizations like the Dataw Conservancy and the Dataw Historic Foundation, alongside various charitable groups and events.
The community pays tribute to veterans every Veterans Day with a grand ceremonial parade, a golf tournament, and fundraising breakfasts and lunches, raising $130,000 to date.
Datawites actively engage in community service locally, participating in activities such as building Habitat for Humanity houses, environmental clean-up efforts, and monitoring sea turtle activity on the beach.
On the island itself, members organize charity runs, maintain a butterfly garden, and host fundraisers and awareness campaigns, such as the Dataw Splash USTA tennis event in June, which supports the Special Olympics.
New members are welcomed with open arms and paired with ambassadors to introduce them to the island's offerings.
The community offers a plethora of sports groups and fitness opportunities, including over 20 "clubs within a club" centered around shared interests like cards, boating, and art.

The Dataw Island Community Center offers indoor and outdoor pools, an aerobic studio, circuit-training machines, free weights, state-of-the-art cardio equipment, personal trainers, and physical therapy services.
For boating enthusiasts, Dataw's private deepwater marina provides wet slips, dry storage, fuel, showers, and a full-service boatyard.
The Dataw Island Yacht Club hosts regattas, kayak tours, sailing adventures, and the Commodore’s Ball.
