Haig Point Golf Club on Daufuskie Island

The Course

Architect: Rees Jones
Built: 1986

Haig Point is a testament to Rees Jones’s masterful design, seamlessly blending architectural brilliance with natural beauty to offer a truly unparalleled golfing experience. Situated in a region celebrated for its top-tier golf courses, Haig Point consistently earns acclaim and hosts prestigious tournaments, solidifying its reputation as one of the nation’s premier courses.  Originally designed by Rees Jones in 1986 with an innovative 20-hole layout, Haig Point featured two additional greens that expanded the course’s unique character. In 2007, Jones returned to restore the greens and elevate the course’s status further. This renovation extended the total yardage from 7,150 to 7,380 yards, enhancing its USGA rating and ensuring the course's place among the elite.

Rees Jones, known as “The Open Doctor” for his work on courses hosting major events like the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, and PGA Championship, has crafted 29 holes of classic architecture at Haig Point. The course features both the Signature and Osprey courses, each offering multiple tee boxes that provide varied perspectives, distances, and challenges influenced by prevailing wind conditions.  The 9-hole Osprey Course, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, presents a quick yet rewarding round with its Bermuda grass fairways. With a course rating of 74.9 and a slope rating of 142, the Osprey Course is perfect for a brisk game before or after work and is particularly popular for family outings.  Haig Point offers a unique experience with the option to select a different scorecard daily, ensuring that every round presents a fresh challenge.

Signature Holes:

  • Hole 5: This striking par-3 is renowned for its dramatic elevation change and panoramic views. The tee shot demands precision as the green is well-guarded by natural hazards, making it a memorable and challenging hole that tests accuracy and strategy.

  • Hole 14:  A long, demanding par-4 with a dogleg right that requires careful placement off the tee. The approach shot to the elevated green is both visually stunning and technically challenging, with strategically placed bunkers and a challenging green layout.

Haig Point Golf Course exemplifies the pinnacle of golf design and natural beauty, offering a blend of historical significance and modern excellence. Whether navigating the intricate challenges of the Signature Course or enjoying a quick round on the scenic Osprey Course, golfers are guaranteed a memorable experience every single time they visit.
